part of Infantry and Artillery and always to give notice beforehand to the police, and I am not aware what unusual amount of firing has taken place to call for the remonstrance.
I have, however, called for this information and will forward it when it arrives, but have reason to believe that the firing in question was merely the instruction of recruits of the Artillery recently arrived from England with blank ammunition.
It is scarcely necessary for me to remark that the statement of the Colonial Secretary, that the Annual allowance of service ammunition is fired off in the centre of the town, is incorrect.
